Sony’s PlayStation debuted in 1994 and has forever altered the face of gaming. The original PlayStation was developed as a direct competitor of Nintendo after an agreement between the two firms fell through,. The PlayStation was the first video game console to sell one hundred million copies.
The PlayStation 2 (PS2), its successor, was released in 2000, a year before its direct competitors, the Xbox and Nintendo GameCube. The PS2 is the fastest console to sell 100 million units, which is great news for Sony.
The PS2 was fully compatible with many other original PlayStation games and went and then became the world’s most popular home console, selling nearly 155 million units worldwide – a record it still currently holds!
